SHAWVILLE July 1, 2020

Shawville Fair has announced on their social media page that they are holding their very first . . .

virtual homecraft exhibit this year.

The participants are students split off by their age groups, each with their own designated tasks. The age groups are: two years-old and under, three to four years-old, five to six years-old, seven to nine years-old, 10 to 12 years-old and 13 to 16 years-old.

The exhibit is open to anyone in the MRC who would like to participate.

“These activities were originally posted on our Facebook page during COVID to give families an activity that they can do with their children at home,” said the fair’s general manager Sara Richardson. “Because of the cancellation of the fair, we still wanted to put on activities to engage the community.”

These participants are asked to hand in a variety of work, from sponge paintings to decorated pet rocks and handmade birthday invitations to posters advertising sports events.

A couple of directors will be judging the submissions and the winners will be posted on their website, shawvillefair.ca.

The works can be dropped off at the fair office between July 13 to 15. Hand sanitizer stations are provided at the door for participants when they arrive, and there is only one family allowed inside at a time.

Winners will be posted on the 17th of that month, following the judging that will take place the day before.

Junior participants are only allowed one entry and are asked to hide their name on their artwork. The winner from each category also receives a 2021 weekend pass which includes rides.

“We hope to have a great turnout,” said Richardson. “There’s other activities we plan on doing in the summer, as well, again, because we have no fair and we are trying to keep everybody engaged.”

More information could be found by contacting the fair office at 819-647-3213 or at info@shawvillefair.ca.
