The Equity has garnered seven nominations at this year’s Quebec Community Newspaper Awards – which honours the year’s best in English-language journalism in the province.
As a paper, The Equity is nominated for the Best Editorial Page, thanks in large part to the stellar contributions of regular columnists like Chris Judd and the Parent’s Voice, along with The Equity’s original content.
Newly minted editor, Caleb Nickerson, was nominated along with former reporter, Donald Teuma-Casteletti, for their coverage of last year’s tornado that tore through Breckenridge.
Teuma-Castelletti, along with former editor, Chris Lowrey, are hoping to bring home The Equity’s second straight Best Headline Writing award, which was won by Nickerson last year.
Teuma-Castelletti rounds out his nominations with a nod for the Best Feature Photo for his shot of Pontiac Senior Comets goaltender Justin Bois.
Lowrey received a nomination for the second straight year for Best Sports Story for his feature on Chris Hayes finally receiving his long-awaited Stanley Cup ring. He also received a nomination for Best Agricultural Story with his coverage of the USMCA and it’s potential impacts on dairy farmers. On top of that, he also got a nod for Best News Photo for his image of a barn fire in Luskville.
The awards ceremony takes place on June 8 in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge.
