The Jardin Éducatif du Pontiac held their annual general meeting on June 16 where they announced . . .
details surrounding the garden’s operation throughout the summer, the state of their budget and some minor shuffling of the board of directors, among other points.
The garden’s summer camp was cancelled in May due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but there will still be a vegetable kiosk open to the public for two days a week starting on July 13.
Those two days will be Thursday afternoons from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be protective equipment available and social distancing measures in place so that the public can enjoy the kiosk.
The gardeners will have access to fresh water to drink and clean their hands with, as well as gloves and masks.
The organization’s budget is in a slight deficit, but only because of the much-needed tractor that they purchased last year.
With regards to the board of directors, all members stayed on the board while administrative positions were shuffled around.
Martin Riopel, the director general of the garden, has taken a step back as the head gardener to enjoy a summer break. Jean-Claude Laroche is set to take his place.
Speaking after the meeting, Riopel said that the garden is in good health across the board.
“We’ll keep giving food to the food bank, that is one of the main reasons for the Jardin,” Riopel said. “At least once a week we’ll bring food.”
Riopel also revealed that they will be having a company build a website for the garden, but that more information will be released on it later this year.
