On Saturday, Norway Bay held an Easter weekend yard sale.
Lana Cowley coordinated the yard sale to . . .
help her and her neighbour, Eileen Barry, declutter their lives.
“It’s Easter weekend, which normally, more people are in Norway Bay,” said Cowley. “I’ve got all this stuff and I don’t want to store it.”
Cowley and Barry’s respective tables consisted mostly of housewares, clothing and spare fabrics.
“The inspiration was to celebrate Easter weekend and to clear out stuff because we want to become minimalists,” said Barry.
Ariane Cloutier was set up further down the road with a display of garden vegetables.
“I’m on the corner of Black and Cemetery, so it works well for me,” she said.
This is the second year that she has sold vegetables from her garden. Cloutier said that this event was a great way to start the season.
“In Norway Bay, where we really have very little in terms of stores, I can offer fresh vegetables to people.”
The yard sale had a relaxed atmosphere, with many community members stopping at each table to chat with their neighbours and enjoy a coffee.
Barry’s son, William McLean, created a welcome ambiance on Cemetery Street with a heartfelt folk music performance from Barry’s porch.
In July, Norway Bay hosts its annual community-wide sale. Cowley and Barry both see this weekend’s edition as its potential precursor.
The Great Norway Bay Garage Sale is scheduled for July 9.
