On Friday night, the Bryson RA hall was packed with little girls and their male chaperones for the second annual Father Daughter Dance.

Organizer Shyloh Pasqua said that . . .

they hope to make the event a tradition in the area, and this year’s festivities had a winter wonderland theme.

“I think it was one of our member’s mothers who said, ‘Oh, wouldn’t it be so much fun to have a father daughter dance,’” she said. “So we did it last year and it was such a success … the dads, the little girls, everybody loved it so we decided we should make it an annual event.”

She said that despite the name, the dance is open to different arrangements, be it grandfather and granddaughter, uncle and niece, or even neighbours.

The RA subcommittee responsible for the dance was made up of Pasqua, Amanda Baird, Adrienne McKinnon and Amanda Cameron. Pasqua said that they had around 70 tickets sold for the evening, which put them close to capacity for the building.

“It’s not really a fundraising event, we’re not looking to profit off of this, it’s more providing our local people with that experience ,” Pasqua said. “It’s a night to celebrate the little girls, and they feel special. The dads have fun, it was the dads last year who asked us if we were doing it again this year.”

In addition to food and snacks, there were plenty of door prizes for attendees to win. Also, photographer Jessica Berard was on hand to get some professional quality snaps of the evening.

Brian and Ocean Yemen took the opportunity to pose for a picture with the winter wonderland backdrop.
