The Quebec government announced on July 23 that indoor gathering limits in public spaces will be increased to 250 as of Aug. 3.

This does not impact private spaces, as . . .

that limit remains at ten people.

The handing out of fines to businesses will come into effect on Aug. 1 as a measure to ensure that citizens continue to wear masks when they enter indoor public spaces.

Pontiac MNA André Fortin was measured in his comment towards the idea of 250 people gatherings.

“We have to be cautious,” Fortin said. “There are events, for example agricultural auctions, that if they’re done correctly can probably exceed the previous 50 person limit and ensure that these events can take place, but at the same time, we have to be cautious. It certainly can’t just lead to a number of outbreaks, and the government has to keep an eye and see whether large-scale events like that are leading to outbreaks and if need be, take a step back.”

As of Monday afternoon, the Outaouais has 43 active cases (659 total, with 583 recovered) and three hospitalizations, although none of them are in intensive care. The Municipality of Pontiac continues to be listed as having five or less cases, while the MRC Pontiac total remains at zero.
