The Agriculture Hall at the Shawville Fairgrounds was packed on Friday night for the Country Rockin’ Shawville Fair Dance.
Stacy Howard, president of the Pontaic Agricultural Society (which runs the Shawville Fair) explained that the group has been planning the event since March.
“We’ve had dances in the past, so we thought we’d give it a try,” she said, adding that the event was less of a fundraiser and more of a way to give back to the community. “It’s only $5, so everyone has a chance to come.”
The night started with the musical talents of the Hooley gang – who, at 24 players, definitely resembled a gang. Next up were the 4H square dancers who wowed the audience with their moves.
Then the Hooley folks were back for some more classic tunes.
Around 9:30, the party kicked into high gear as The Riley New band out of Renfrew took the stage and got everyone out on the dance floor.
Howard said she was pleased with the turnout and thanked all the volunteers that worked to put on the dance.
