Thanks to a $41,500 grant from the MRC Pontiac, the results of Chichester’s shoreline project should be accessible to residents and tourists next summer in the shape of a park along chemin de Chapeau Sheenboro.
The grant is for phases three and four of the project, and it was announced during the Oct. 21 MRC council meeting. Phases one and two consisted of . . .
landscaping, cleaning and establishing fencing for the future park, according to Mayor Donald Gagnon.
The park will include an outdoor gazebo, a walking trail and public bathrooms. Given the time of year, Gagnon said that construction of the park wouldn’t begin until spring 2021.
“We’re trying to increase [the number] of people for recreation,” he explained. “It’s more or less for the community, and the people that are going through can stop at the museum and have a picnic area.”
Gagnon said that the project will hopefully promote visits to the Culbute Museum, which is located directly across the street from the park.
He added that the destination could expand after phases three and four of the project, mentioning the possibility of a future children’s recreational park.
The grant, which was one of 13 awarded through the MRC’s FRR fund, required a 20 per cent commitment — $10,375 — from the municipality.
