An Upper Pontiac man is facing several charges following a chase with police late Wednesday evening.

At around 11:30 p.m. on April 24, Sûreté du Québec officers were patrolling the parking lot of the River Club on Allumettes Island when they witnessed a vehicle reverse and strike a hydro pole.

The vehicle took off with police in hot pursuit and the short chase ended when the suspect pulled onto a flooded cul-de-sac at chemin Cottage and Chemin F. Officers had to break the window to apprehend the suspect, who refused to exit the vehicle.

A 34-year-old Allumettes Island man was arrested and released on a promise to appear at the Campbell’s Bay courthouse at a later date, where he could face hit and run as well as impaired driving charges. He could also face other infractions such as driving with a suspended licence.
