Beauregard seeks mayor’s chair:
A Campbell’s Bay councillor is seeking the position of mayor, after long-serving incumbent Bill Stewart announced his retirement this year.
Maurice Beauregard has lived in Campbell’s Bay for the majority of his life, leaving briefly to attend college. He’s served as a councillor for one term and has been a member of the local fire department for ten years.

“I was with the Lions Club for approximately eight years and since I’m young, I’ve been volunteering at every event going on in town,” he said. “Whatever I’m asked for, I help with in town, ever since I was a kid. I think I’m well-known for that.”
He said that the biggest challenge the town is facing is attracting and retaining youth and families in the area, due to the lack of local employment. Both Beauregard and his wife commute to work in Hull, so the struggle is quite personal for him.
“I was on council and I thought that it was time for one of the younger generation to step up and prove ourselves,” he said. “I think the biggest issue is to keep people around because we know there’s no jobs.”
He said that local infrastructure would be a priority if he was elected and he has experience in these departments from his time on council.
“I was on the water and sewer which are two big committees,” he said. “We’ve had major expenditures in them.”
He pointed to work on the town’s water treatment facilities as a project he would like to see to completion.
“I’d love to be there to finish this project to save the town money,” he said. “I’m fairly mechanically inclined plus my schooling was business admin with a major in finance.”
He concluded by stating that he was deeply committed to the future of the town where he grew up.
“I love that I can raise my children here and feel safe and I’d love to continue to do that in the future,” he said. “I’m a very honest person, very outgoing and I’m not afraid to get involved with stuff.”

Note: Former councillor Lisa Dagenais is also running for mayor of Campbell’s Bay. Despite repeated interview requests by THE EQUITY, Dagenais did not respond in time for print.
