Sylvain Bégin was appointed the new director general of Île du Grand Calumet on June 19 by . . .

a unanimous vote of the municipality’s council members, replacing Sabrina Larivière.

The announcement came in a special meeting held by council on June 19. It was mentioned his salary will be $56,000 and a two-week paid vacation this year.

The island has now had five director generals in the past five years.

In a previous meeting held on June 8, Councillor Mona Donelly said the office received a letter on the day of the meeting from Larivière that said she would be leaving her position immediately due to personal undisclosed reasons.

Councillor Martin Bertrand applauded Larivière’s contribution to the council on behalf of the council and wished her good luck in her future endeavours.

In the June 8 meeting, the board has agreed to allocate $1,500 research and the development of a list of potential candidates.

This sum did not take into account CV evaluations or interviews with the individuals, which have yet to be done at the time of the video conference.

Ile du Grand Calumet is also looking for a building and environment inspector and are in collaboration with other municipalities to formulate criteria for the requirements of each in this position

Mayor Serge Newberry has recently returned to office following a medical leave but was not present at a virtual municipal meeting this past Friday, which was led by Pro-Mayor Alice Meilleur-Pieschke.

Bégin has also served ass the director general of Rapides des Joachims.
