Last Saturday, the Bryson Revitalization group held their annual family fun day.
The goal of the event was to have a downsized version of their usual fun day, allowing the community to come together while still abiding by public-health restrictions.
“This is kind of a scaled down version of what we did before COVID, it used to be much bigger,” said Cliff Welsh of the Bryson Revitalization group.
Bryson revitalization is a community organization that seeks to keep community spirit strong and complete various projects in Bryson. This year, the family fun day acted as a fundraiser for the town’s newly built lighthouse. Welsh encouraged anyone that has a chance to check out the lighthouse, which is located at the Bryson boat launch.
The afternoon event included family baseball games where kids played against their parents, followed by the “Over 50” game. Afterwards firefighters from Bryson, Campbells Bay and L’Île du Grand Calumet played against firefighters from the Shawville-Clarendon Fire Department.
The Bryson Recreational Association paid for a bouncy castle, which was enjoyed by many of the children who attended the event. Many of the children lined up to get custom balloon art made from balloon artist Melissa Goulet-Trudel.
Goulet-Trudel said she was happy to get involved with the event as soon as she heard about it. “They were talking about the event at the office and I was like ‘guys, you know you have a balloon sculptor in town,’” she said. “It was that simple.”
The night finished with fireworks and live music from DJ Maestro Joe.
Many of the event’s organizers acknowledged the importance of getting out of the house and back into the community after being locked down for much of the last year.
“Right now, it’s really good to get people out and doing things with other people,” said Welsh, “it’s good for people’s morale to be able to get together and have a sense of normalcy.”
Information about upcoming Bryson Revitalization events will be posted on their Facebook page.
