Bethel Pentecostal church in Shawville hosted a week-long Vacation Bible School for children in the Pontiac. The concept of the week was centred around a Rocky Mountain railway, and saw various train and mountain themed games and activities used to teach children about the bible.
“We want kids in the community to get to know who Jesus is, and to also . . .
know that he loves them,” said Joy Moquin, one of the organizers. “So the theme this year is Jesus’ power pulls us through.”
The event was broken down into five days, with each day having a specific bible related lesson accompanied by a bible verse that the children were encouraged to memorize.
“Day one was Jesus’ power helps us do hard things, day two is Jesus’s power helps us have hope, day three was Jesus’ power helps us be bold, four was Jesus’ power lets us live forever, and five was today and Jesus parish helps us be good friends,” said Moquin.
The church group accomplished this by putting together various games and activities for the 120 registered children attending the event.
During the last day of activities the children were broken down to four groups. One played the “locomotion” games outside, one group watched videos, one group did arts and crafts activities and one group participated in an interactive story time.
The event wrapped up with a large dance party in the sanctuary of the Bethel Church followed by a lunch.
The event was put on through a joint endeavor of Bethel Pentecostal Church, Grace Community Church and the New Hope Church.
Each church takes turns hosting the bible school every year.
