THORNE Feb. 1, 2019
On Friday night, the Thorne Community Recreation Association hosted their first event of 2019, tempting fate by loading up members of the community with a pile of beans.
In addition to musical fruit, volunteers had prepared ham and caesar salad, with desserts supplied by the community at large, who turned out in droves.
TCRA volunteer Joyce McCleary Binder explained that a bean supper is less labour-intensive than other main courses, and that a team of about six put the dinner together in a few hours. She added that they outsource the desserts to the community, which results in a dizzying selection.
“Just a few phone calls and it’s like the loaves and the fishes, they multiply,” she said.
She also singled out Jeannine Giguère and her mother-in-law Lucienne, who prepared plenty of fresh-baked bread and buns for the evening.
The next event at the hall will be the municipality’s family fun day on Feb. 9.
