Amyotte Park in Mansfield et Pontefract was busy over the weekend for a ball tournament in support of . . .

the local minor hockey association.

In total, 11 teams participated from Friday to Sunday, split into two divisions. Organizer Terry Charette said that he had no connection to the community hockey association, but recognized they would be in need.

“None of my kids play, I just did it for playing ball and raising money for someone,” he said. “They need the help because of all the COVID [stuff], it’s going to be an expensive year.”

Earlier in the summer, Charette organized a tournament in support of his mother-in-law, who is undergoing treatment for cancer. He said that since the COVID-19 restrictions have eased since then, they were allowed to have a canteen and chip stand, as well as more people at the park.

In the B division, the Krushers took out the Ballers in the final match on Sunday afternoon with a score of 17 to 13. Shortly after, Mean Machine A dominated Overrated 15 to 10 in the A division to close out the weekend’s games.
