A woman has been arrested in connection to a fatal accident that claimed the life of a local community leader on Sept. 19.

On Dec. 16, police arrested a 22 year-old woman from Barry’s Bay Ont. for drug-impaired driving causing death. According to Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Sgt. Marc Tessier, she . . .

met with investigators and was released with a promise to appear with conditions.

The accident took place in Mansfield et Pontefract at around 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 19. The accused was driving an SUV and was in the process of turning onto Hwy. 148 from rue Poirier when her vehicle collided with a motorcycle driven by Sylvain Bégin, 50, of Mansfield et Pontefract. Both Bégin and the accused were seriously injured in the crash, but he succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Bégin was a firefighter with the local department and was deemed a “pillar of the community” by those that knew him. He was involved with many charitable causes, like the Pontiac Angel Tree project, among others.

The accused is set to appear at the Campbell’s Bay courthouse on April 13, 2021. Tessier did not release her name but added that the investigation was still ongoing.
