The sun was shining, and the birds were chirping Thursday morning as students of Dr S. E. McDowell Elementary were treated to a day of fun and games at the school’s very own two-day fun fair. There were  eight stations throughout the recess yard that included bouncy castles, an obstacle course, a snow-cone machine and a slip n’ slide to help beat the heat. The horse back rides were the most popular. Ginger Finan, a supply teacher at the school, had brought the horses for the fun fair’s long-awaited return.

“I’ve done their fun fair three years ago, but it was cancelled for the past two years because of COVID,” said Finan.

One of the horse’s biggest fans was grade six student Skye Kenny. “I really liked it…I was even able to ride twice,” she said.

To accommodate the large student population, the event was spread over June 17 and  18, and the student population was divided into two groups. As the school year is coming to a close, a staff committee decided to hold the fun fair as a safe  way for students to celebrate getting through what had been a different school year, with all the changes and health and safety regulations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
