Congratulations to the winners of the Duck Race fundraiser put on by the Lions Club of Chapeau and part of the Festival au Style on Saturday. The lucky winners were: Cloe King – $1,000; Jason King – $700; Travis Keon – $400; Yvon Sicard – $250; Amanda Gagnon – $150. The proceeds will be shared with Residence Meilleur. All the ducks were dumped from a front end loader off the bridge. It was exciting to see them all coming down river towards the dock.

I also got to meet Réjean Marion, the owner of the Convent, who held an Open House on Saturday. All visitors were treated to homemade pastries, cheese snacks, tea and coffee as well as an update to his plans for the convent.
Congratulations to Peter Adam who retired from RCRCSSB (Roman Catholic Renfrew County Separate School Board). A retirement party was held for him on the weekend.
Thank you to the Storms for bidding on our donation dinner at Angie’s Canada Day Silent Auction in Sheenboro. The dinner for four was served on Thursday evening at Donovan Sullivan’s farm and prepared by Betty Morris, Evelyn Sullivan, and me.
Best wishes go out to Wayne and Lynne Anne who were also celebrating their wedding anniversary that evening.
Birthday greetings go out to Kluane Miller Murray of Montreal who celebrated on Aug. 26. Happy birthday to Joanne Gagnon, Carmen Michaud and Cody McLeese who are celebrating on Aug. 31 and to my godchild Christine Marcotte Moncion on Sept. 4.
On Saturday, a film crew was at St. Theresa’s Church in Fort William to stage a funeral of a small Indigenous girl who had drowned. This shoot will be a part of the film, “The Seven Last Words” which will be aired sometime next year. One of the directors, Caroline Monnet and the Indigenous actors were from the Fort Coulonge area.
Congratulations to Lorna Agnesi who won $100 and to Betty Morris who won $200 from the Knights of Columbus tickets sold by Frank Retty of Sheenboro. He is a faithful ticket seller and usually doesn’t miss anyone.
Volunteers are needed for the Amphibious Challenge that will take place in Sheenboro on Sept. 8, 9, and 10. Please contact Jennifer (Mark) Jennings if you are available to give some of your time that weekend. You can also contact Simon Donato if you are interested in taking part in any of the races.
