Dear Editor,
Please accept my condolences on the loss of Shawville native Bryan Murray.
A native of northern Virginia, I followed the Washington Capitals as a teenager, when both Bryan Murray and Terry Murray were with the team.
Bryan Murray was a brilliant coach (so is Terry!) and general manager. He was also a very kind man. When he sent me an autographed picture in 1982, he attached a handwritten note apologizing for not sending it to me sooner. Actually, I didn’t have to wait very long for him to send it to me.
When I was 14 years old, he granted me an interview for the Washington Capitals’ Fan Club Newsletter. Even though I had many questions, he answered them all patiently.
I visited your charming town in 1984 and bought a Shawville Pontiacs’ jersey at Murray’s Sports Store from Tim Murray and Bill Murray. Of course, I still have it and it is still special to me.
Currently living in Prague, I have followed the careers of Bryan Murray and Terry Murray, whom I admire as a player from his Capitals’ days and as a coach.
Thank you for your time. Please give my condolences to the Murray family.
