Residents intending to run in the upcoming byelection for seat 4 on Chichester’s municipal council have until Aug. 21 to submit their nomination papers.
The seat was left vacant when councillor Chrissy Payne resigned from the position in July to pursue a new opportunity in Toronto. She was in her second term, elected by acclamation in both 2021 and 2025.
Candidates can submit their papers at the municipal office, located at 75 rue Notre-Dame in Chapeau, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Fridays. On Aug. 21, the final day of the nomination period, it will be open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Candidate eligibility requirements can be found on the municipality’s website.
The advance poll will be Sept. 13 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., and election day will be Sept. 20. from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with voting taking place at town hall.
Eligible electors who live outside the municipality and wish to vote by mail, or who wish to vote from their home or their room at a recognized healthcare facility must apply to do so by Sept. 8, 2026.
