More than one hundred people came out to the first day of the Cave Quest Bible Camp on Aug. 14 at Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle.
The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon all week, gives children the chance to engage with bible passages in a fun environment.
This year’s theme focuses on caves to engage children. Last year the theme was “Everest.”

The day starts with an opening ceremony of sorts, where the children are led in a sing-along by Joy Moquin.
After the opening ceremony, the kids participate in several different stations that are associated with the cave theme of the camp.
Kids could let their creativity run wild at the imagination station, play games at the spelunking station, and engage with Bible verses at the deep Bible quest station.
“It gives the kids a chance to engage with Bible verses,” said event co-ordinator Rhonda Côté. Adding that many of the children are able to recite Bible verses from memory afterward.
Each day features a new theme around which the activities are planned. Monday’s theme was “Jesus gives us hope.”
Côté said that as the decorations go up in the days ahead of the camp, the children begin to ramp up their enthusiasm.
“The kids are very excited,” Côté said. “Especially when they see the decorations.”
The stage inside the sanctuary was decorated with several caves and a series of lights that made it look like the reflections of shimmering water were rippling along the cave walls.
Côté, who is organizing the event for the first time, said that she wouldn’t have been able to pull it off without the help of the more than 20 volunteers who chipped in.
“It’s a lot of work but it’s worth it,” Côté said.
As an added bonus, parents of those in attendance get a chance for a bit of peace and quiet during what can be long summer days of entertaining their youngsters.
The event was orchestrated through a partnership between three local churches: Bethel Pentecostal, New Hope Christian Fellowship and Grace Community Bible Church.
