Well, we finally got a nice weekend weatherwise. It was great for the Lions’ Jamboree in Shawville. We attended again this year and it was a great success. The Bowes Brothers performed on Sunday morning and were very good again this year. They had rain during their performance but it didn’t really dampen anyone’s spirits. Funny thing, it was raining in Shawville but I left right after the show and when I got to Bryson there was no rain at all and none in Campbell’s Bay either. It was totally dry here.
Doris Gardner Young who resides at the Reid Street Home attended a Canada 150 party in Bristol and the weekend and she said it was very nice. People were dressed in costumes of that era so it was very interesting.
As far as town goes, there is not much new here. I can’t think of anything of interest to anyone.
The construction holiday is on for two weeks so we may see different people around hopefully.
Work is supposed to resume on the park this week and plans are underway for the Summer Festival which is coming up at the end of August. Maybe by then the rain will have stopped.
I had a lovely chat with a Mrs. Crick on Sunday morning before the Bowes Brothers. We chatted about everything from gardening to crafts, canning food for the winter, farming and things related to getting ready for the winter in years gone by. When I asked her, “Do you listen to Mary Cook’s stories on the radio?” She replied “yes.” We both agreed they are so funny sometimes but always real, that is for sure. If you read my news Mrs. Crick, you are a delightful and interesting woman. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. I personally did not do any of the stuff but I remember my mother and mother-in-law doing all of that, but I did pick wild berries for canning.
I wish everyone a happy birthday and happy anniversary to those celebrating and get well wishes are still wished to everyone not doing well.
I read a passage that is worth sharing and it was this. “What if you wake up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday?” Hmmm? Happy days everyone.
