Dear Editor,
A few weeks ago I visited the Dr. S.E. McDowell and Onslow Schools accompanied by Lynda Horner. While there we presented 24 county and five provincial prizes to students who participated in our annual story writing contest. I also attended a graduation ceremony at the Continuing Education Centre where I presented a bursary to a deserving student. Congratulations to all students and we look forward to doing this again next year.
On June 21, we hosted our 10th annual summer supper in Stark’s Corners where we served about 200 people. This is our major fundraiser of the year and we thank all who came out and supported us. Special thanks to Joanne’s Valu-mart, Chris Beimers and all our members for their donations of money, food and dedicated work. Monies we raise through this event are used in support of our schools, health care, the 4–H club and the Pontiac Archives, to name a few.
On June 27 we hosted the Federated Women’s Institute of Canada for a supper. The members who attended were from across Canada as well as the ACWW World President from Australia. They held their board meetings at Spruceholme Inn and while here they toured the Coulonge Chutes and other places of interest. We enjoyed showcasing our county.
Have a safe and healthy summer.
For Home and Country.
