The MRC Pontiac has been recognized by a cycling interest group as a bike-friendly municipality.
Vélo Québec gave the MRC Pontiac an honourable mention for the organization’s mouvement vélosypathique certification program.
Vélo Québec is a provincial organization that has been promoting the use of bicycles for 50 years. The group offers training to cyclists, advocates for bike-friendly development, mobilizes cycling events and develops programs to encourage active transportation.
The group gave the MRC an honourable mention because of its efforts to promote cycling in the area.
Each candidacy is judged on five main criteria, known as the five E’s: engineering, education, encouragement, enforcement and evaluation & planning.
The MRC described the honourable mention as the first step in an ongoing process to improve cycling infrastructure and create a cycling culture in the region.
With this in mind, the MRC has partnered with the Green PPJ Group to improve conditions on the PPJ cycling trail.
It has also partnered with the Amis du Cycloparc PPJ, who have their next bike tour on its “Discover the Kichi Sibi Shores” tour through Sheenboro, Chichester and Allumettes Island.
