The children from the Municipality of Pontiac’s day camp showed off the results of their hard work with Wakefield artist Marc Walter on Wednesday (Aug. 12) at the Luskville Community Centre.

The group created a sort of a circular structure woven out of numerous branches, erected on the lawn behind the building.

The initiative was supported by a grant from the Laurent Duvernay-Tardif Foundation / Tremplin Santé, a non-profit organization that supports arts and physical activities at day camps across the province. The organization’s website states that its goal is for Quebec youth to have access to activities that inspire them and contribute to their personal growth.

Pontiac mayor Roger Larose, who was filling in for leisure coordinator Nathalie Larose, said that they had chosen Walter to lead the children in creating the collaborative structure.

“They gave us a grant to do something with the kids. We chose Marc Walter as an artist, to design something for the kids to enjoy building,” he said.

He explained that Walter had a specialty in sculptures and structures of this kind using natural products.

“We’re going to try to save it to have it for next year, so we can keep working on the project,” Larose added.

Once Larose had finished speaking to the assembled children and parents, the campers were invited to hang pendants with written messages on the structure to celebrate their work.

Children from the day camp were invited to hang individual messages throughout the structure to celebrate its completion.
