Shawville Martial Arts gym held an open house on Friday afternoon, allowing the public to come by check out their facilities. The gym, which has been open for nearly two years, offers boxing, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and women’s-only kickboxing. Traditional Jiu-jitsu is also offered on Thursday nights. Owner Travis Neumann said that they had just moved from a different unit in the strip mall opposite Valu-mart, more than doubling their square footage and allowing for a boxing ring and more mat space in the basement.

Neumann said he and his wife Amy Zacharias operate the gym as a passion project, and try to make the space as welcoming as possible. “We’re a really open, positive crew here, so I would just encourage people to come out,” he said.
