Gerry Bimm has stepped down from his position as municipal councillor in Otter Lake, leaving the municipality’s seat two vacant.
Bimm submitted his resignation letter to the municipality on Apr. 29, and it was received by council at its May 12 public meeting. He had only been in the seat since last fall’s municipal election, when he won the position by acclamation.
When reached by THE EQUITY, Bimm said he would not be making any comment on the matter.
On top of his many decades-long career in broadcasting in the Ottawa Valley, Bimm served as a councillor in Eganville for three years in the late ‘90s, followed by another three years as councillor with the Township of Bonnechere Valley.
In 2025, he campaigned on protecting local lakes from invasive milfoil species, strengthening tourism in the municipality, and keeping taxes as low as possible. In a Facebook post announcing his candidacy, he described himself as someone who believes in honesty, openness and transparency from government.
Otter Lake mayor Jennifer Quaile said Bimm’s resignation letter did not provide any reason for his decision.
She said she reached out to Bimm to say she was sorry to hear he had decided to resign and wished him all the best in whatever he does next.
“He was really good at covering local events. So anything going on at the Recreation Association, put on by the RA itself or the 150 Committee, the community certainly appreciated his efforts to cover those events,” she said.
“He would bring his phone on a stick, and do a YouTube sort of video and talk to people who were attending, whether it was a fishing derby or a games event for kids, he was there to report back to people, so that was really appreciated.”
