Deepest sympathies are extended to the family of Elmer Alexander, as he passed away on Dec. 9 at the age of 84. Elmer was my bus driver for many years when I was a kid, and I fondly remember his dry sense of humour and teasing nature. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Jane, sons Don, Jeff, and John, and all of his loved ones at this sad time.

Congratulations to Joey-Lou Keon and Greg Devine, as they surprised family and friends by announcing they got married this past weekend in Mont-Tremblant. Wishing the happy couple all the best as they begin this next chapter as husband and wife.

On Saturday, my mom and I enjoyed a delicious Christmas Take-Out Tea from the ladies at Starks Corners United Church. The sandwiches were so fresh and tasty, while there was a lovely array of sweets to enjoy as well. Many thanks to the Starks Corners UCW for their hard work, as having Christmas tea with my mom has become one of my favourite holiday traditions.

This past Sunday morning, the Quyon Pastoral Charge honoured our minister, Patricia Power, with a farewell potluck luncheon, as Patricia’s time with us is drawing to a close. She will be moving on to a new position at Woodroffe United Church, with her last Sunday here being Jan. 4, 2026. The congregation gathered to wish her well, and enjoyed a fabulous lunch and time of fellowship. We wish Patricia all the best in her new church.

Birthday wishes are going out to Quinn Young and Brett Stanley, celebrating on Dec. 17, and to Yasmine Lapierre on the 22nd. Best wishes to all marking special occasions this week.

Another weekend of festive fun is upon us, kicking off on Friday evening when Jessica Pearson will be playing in the pub at Gavan’s starting at 8 p.m. The show is free, and the last time I saw Jessica there, it was absolutely fantastic. Looking forward to another great show on Friday night.

On Sunday, the Quyon Lions Club is hosting another breakfast at the Quyon Community Centre. It will be held from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., and this month is sponsored by Francine & Lorne Dagenais at L&J Towing. Come out to enjoy eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, coffee and more. We are looking forward to it.

Then Sunday afternoon, Gail Gavan and friends will be hitting the stage at Gavan’s Hotel for Christmas From the Pontiac. We attended the show last year and it was so festive and fun. We have our tickets for this Sunday’s performance, and we can’t wait. The Quyon Community Association will also be closing out Quyon’s 150th Anniversary festivities at the same time, and they will have displays of memorabilia set up to check out. It promises to be a wonderful afternoon of celebrating.
