Some 50 Jays fans turned out to cheer on the team in Game 7 at the watch party hosted by the Shawville RA on Saturday night.
The final game of the World Series had the crowd pacing, shouting, and occasionally yelling at the screens used to project the game, especially as it extended past its ninth inning.
But the RA’s atmosphere had nothing on that in Rogers Centre, from where Portage-du-Fort native and longtime Pontiac High School teacher Julie Le Monnier-Baxter watched the final match with her son and husband.
“Insane! Stressful. ‘Let’s go Blue Jays’ chants the entire time. Standing most of the time, even in the 500-level. High-fiving random people,” she said of the experience.
“When Bo got his 3-run homerun it was wild. Then when the Dodgers tied the game and the final run in the 9th, I was sad. My son cried a lot. I cried a lot the next day. It’s not just a game to us. It’s watching almost all 162 games in the regular season. Getting to be there with my husband and my son was amazing. I wish my daughter had come too.”
Une cinquantaine de fans des Jays se sont réunis pour encourager l’équipe lors du 7e match, à la soirée de visionnement organisée par l’AR de Shawville samedi soir.
Lors du match final de la Série mondiale, la foule arpentait les lieux, criait et, à l’occasion, hurlait aux écrans qui projetaient le match, surtout lorsque celui-ci a dépassé la neuvième manche.
Mais l’ambiance de l’AR ne se comparait en rien à celle du Centre Rogers, d’où Julie Le Monnier-Baxter, originaire de Portage-du-Fort et enseignante de longue date à l’école secondaire Pontiac, a regardé le match final avec son fils et son mari.
« Fou ! Stressant. Des chants “Allez les Blue Jays” pendant tout le match. Debout la plupart du temps, même au niveau 500. Des « high-five » avec des inconnus », a-t-elle raconté à propos de l’expérience.
« Quand Bo a réussi son circuit de 3 points, c’était fou. Puis, quand les Dodgers ont égalisé le match et le point final à la 9e manche, j’étais triste. Mon fils a beaucoup pleuré. J’ai beaucoup pleuré le lendemain. Ce n’est pas qu’un simple match pour nous. C’est regarder presque les 162 matchs de la saison régulière. Le fait d’être là avec mon mari et mon fils était incroyable. J’aurais aimé que ma fille vienne aussi. »
