Dear Editor,
It is reassuring to see that not everyone on this planet is content to turn a blind eye to injustice. Based on your most recent editorial (Roméo, Louise and Lloyd, THE EQUITY, May 7, 2025), I am happy to see that you are among that number.
You have reminded us once more, though such entreaties so far have been futile, that when the charter of the United Nations was drawn up after World War ll, the hope was that the slaughter of innocents, such as the civilian population in Gaza, could be prevented. Sadly, that has not been the case.
Among the questions submitted to THE EQUITY, to be posed to the local candidates prior to the recent election, was one which specifically addressed this issue. The response from some of those candidates was, unfortunately, predictable. They did not feel it was Canada’s business to even express dismay at the situation.
What chance is there, then, of ever creating a world where the evils of war and genocide can be redressed?
William Smith, Bristol
