Dear Editor,
The veterinary crisis is not over yet, not for myself anyway.
I am eight kilometres outside of Otter Lake on the Picanoc Road (Kluke Road). I have five horses and only call a vet in emergency situations.
A vet I’ve had in the past no longer returns my calls. Another vet “can’t come today or tomorrow, maybe next week.” I was told I’m out of his jurisdiction now. He pretty much just does Shawville and Kazabazua.
A local gal veterinarian I had in the past can no longer practice in Quebec due to the language laws. Too bad because she was fantastic. My horses don’t care if you’re French or English. She has not been replaced by her employer.
A clinic on the Ontario side came twice but the lady who sets up the appointments for the veterinarians told me they no longer can come. There’s “not enough hours in the day” and they “have their Ontario people.”
They have a cluster of people in Shawville though.
She informed me she doesn’t know what to tell me but to contact my MP. Apparently the clinic has three Quebec licensed veterinarians.
My husband and I have had these horses a long time, since they were babies, so it is very stressful and discouraging.
