Dear Editor,
I am very pleased to see that Santa has visited the Pontiac, perhaps a bit early this year, to meet children of all ages. This is especially important because the postal strike makes it difficult for kids in rural areas to get their lists out to him. You have some wonderful pictures of his visits to Quyon, my hometown, and Danford Lake, and, I hope, to all the other communities.
I am not pleased, however, that you have returned to the practice of naming these two Santas. As kids in the 1950s, we knew Santa was special, and we also knew, but didn’t want to admit, which dad or grandpa was on the sleigh. The reporters never revealed the real names, either.
A few, perhaps 10 or so years ago, this same issue arose, and I felt compelled to write a similar Letter to the Editor of the day. He replied, in print, that I had made my point, and THE EQUITY would no longer share this information about Santa.
In closing, you will note I have cc’d Santa, but I will also remind him that my recommendation about you and THE EQUITY team is that you have done a great job this year, except for this little slip-up, and he should keep that in mind when he’s putting your gifts into his Big Bag.
Best wishes to citizens of the Pontiac, especially Quyon, for a Joyous Christmas and a Healthy and Happy 2025.
Bob Steele, Calgary
