The Pontiac Senior Comets won their third game of the season on Saturday night against the Arnprior Rivermen by a score of 8-3.
The visiting team got off to a speedy start in the first period, scoring two goals within the first seven minutes of the game. But the Comets shot back, scoring six consecutive times, including four goals in the second period, to put the team ahead.
The Rivermen notched a goal to open the third frame, but the Comets rebounded with two more to seal the win in front of the home fans.
The first and second stars of the game were new players making their Comets debuts. The first star, Jean-Robin Mantha, scored a hat-trick and had one assist, while the second star, William Dagenais, had one goal and two assists in the game.
Team co-owner and starting goaltender Danick Boisvert said the team regrouped in the first intermission after going down 2-1, which allowed them to make a run in the second frame.
“Coach came in and restructured our positioning,” he said. “We were a little bit more intense. We capitalized, we scored. The guys were playing a bit better defensively in the period.”
With the victory, the Comets now have three wins and three losses this season, placing them second in the Capital division.
Boisvert said the team is well-positioned to improve their standing as they are only four points behind the division-leading Manotick Mariners.
“We’re on a small winning streak. We just have to stay positive. If we skate hard and play our game, which is a physical game, we can stay in contention,” he said.
The Comets will play their next game against the undefeated North Dundas Rockets this Saturday in Shawville.
