Reinstate waste committee

The Equity

Dear Editor,

Thanks for the response, Jane (https://theequity.ca/treat-other-people-the-way-you-want-to-be-treated/) but let’s be clear about one thing, as I can’t be held responsible for all sins you listed.
You have suggested that I was publicly unfair to a member of the MRC staff. My letter to the editor talked about the role of the chairperson, but not by name or MRC position other than as a chairperson with a predetermined agenda. That was deliberate on my part. It took you, the warden, to bring the person’s identity to light.

I raised concerns by email to you directly, with other members of MRC staff copied, about the choice of chairperson as you have stated in your response was the correct policy. My concern was ignored and the committee was prematurely dismissed a few days later.

A person chairing a committee should not be responsible for carrying out its mandate as well. It should have been clear from the outset that is was an unfair position in which to place a new employee or members of a committee trying to bring forward fresh and creative ideas.

This committee needs to be reinstated in a manner that allows for independent oversight of MRC policy with regards to waste management. If not for the public’s input in our recent past, we would be well on our way to a near billion dollar expense for an unwanted incinerator.

Rick Bradshaw, Sheenboro
