The Equity

Dear Editor,

The Shawville Fair was well organized, the music was good, the crowds were adequate. Kudos to those who made it so.

Special mention goes to the after-hours cleanup crew. The day after, I walked past the fairgrounds expecting to see loads of trash around, but it was all gone.

Now, here’s the rub: the cleanup crew gathered several large dumpsters full of unsorted trash. That will either have to be sorted by hand or dumped in the landfill at Lachute, at so much per ton.

So, between now and next year’s fair (or other large-crowd event), let’s see if we can devise a way to have the trash sorted on-site, and sent to the various places where it can be properly dealt with. That will make a good fair better, and our trash situation less bad.
