Dear Editor,
On behalf of the Pontiac Historical Society, I invite fair-goers to visit and tour the Pontiac Historical Museum, located at the south west corner of the fairgrounds. The Museum is housed in what was the Shawville station of the Pontiac Pacific Junction railway, and the exhibits reflect the household, farming, logging, brick making lifestyles of this region in times past. Photographs, artifacts and stories have been donated by descendants of those who shaped the architecture and society of Pontiac in the era when railroad was the mode of transportation.
For the thirteenth year, we have recruited two student workers over the summer, and they have helped us to maintain the building, re-arrange exhibits, delve into the extensive collection of vintage photographs, and establish an updated web presence for year-round access.
Entry is free from the fairgrounds, and the museum is a quiet, relaxing refuge, when the Fair gets to be too hectic. Come see relics of the past, and marvel at the ingenuity and perseverance of our predecessors. Reviewing the past can help us define the future.
