Children, teens and adults alike enjoyed an unseasonably warm Saturday during the Bryson RA’s third annual mini-carnival.

The two-day event, which began Friday evening, boasted a boot hockey tournament for adults and a host of children’s outdoor carnival games on Saturday afternoon.

“It’s been really a great event,” said Julie Ryan, one of the event’s organizers and president of the Bryson RA.

Ryan said organizers feared a lousy turnout due to weather conditions, but that attendance had been fantastic.

“They [community members] were so excited to . . .

have the event, they said they didn’t care that the weather was bad, they were still coming,” she said.

“The people love getting out because winter is dull, you need something to do,” she added. “We had a very late night last night. The teams stayed and played, enjoyed the drinks and food, and then again today they’re all here supporting the RA and having fun.”

Luc Danis coordinated the games schedule for the adult hockey tournament.

“The weather is not on our side, it’s a little wishy-washy on the rink, but everybody’s having a good time so that’s all that matters,” he said.

While many hockey players participating in the tournament were less than thrilled with the unseasonably warm temperatures on Saturday as they meant a slushy rink, other carnival attendees were delighted with the balmy conditions.

“The weather is great,” said Bryson resident Katie Miller who attended the event with her family. “We’ve played some miniature hockey, had some food, it’s been fun.”

“Last year was minus 40, they had to bring the games inside. But this year’s perfect,” said Bryson resident Nicholas Cameron, who brought his two young daughters to the mini-carnival.

According to Ryan, proceeds from the event will pay off the cost of putting it on, and anything left over will go to the RA.
