Who doesn’t love breakfast for dinner every once in a while? That was certainly the philosophy of the organizers of Zion Lutheran Church’s pancake supper event this past Saturday. An annual event that had been put on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Saturday’s pancake supper marked the return of the much anticipated and thoroughly enjoyed event.

Held in the basement of the . . .

Zion Lutheran Church in Thorne, mouth watering aromas of cooking pancakes and sausages hung in the air as event attendees gathered to enjoy the meal. With all maple syrup for the supper being sourced of the Pontiac, the event had a local flavor to it.

Member of the event organization committee, Donna St-Aubin, said that aside from bringing the community together after a long winter, the event serves as an important fundraiser for the church.

“Like every other church, our congregations have gotten smaller,” said St-Aubin. “We don’t have as much money coming in, and so events like the pancake supper act as a main fundraiser for the church in terms of everything that needs to be done.”

Originally scheduled for April 8, the event’s date was changed due to power outages occurring throughout the region.

Entrance to the event ranged depending on age, with adults paying $15, children costing $10 and those under five being permitted to enter free of charge.

On an unseasonably warm April day, community members gathered at Zion Lutheran Church in Thorne for a pancake supper.
