Carrefour jeunesse-emploi du Pontiac held its second annual Pontiac wide job fair last Tuesday.
The event saw 150 job offers posted from 30 participating employers, according to a press release about the event.
The event was held both virtually and in-person across . . .
three locations: the Carrefour jeunesse emploi du Pontiac headquarters in Campbell’s Bay, the Maison de la famille in Fort-Coulonge and in the Shawville Library and saw about 120 people participate.
“This is our second edition and we decided to make this an annual event due to the high level of interest,” said Jessica Kelly, who works with Carrefour jeunesse. “We’re really maintaining the virtual option because it allows our small business owners and employers to be able to continue their business without having to leave for an afternoon. Also, given the vast territory of the Pontiac and transportation and internet access issues, we also wanted to offer three physical locations where anybody could come to use a computer with internet access, but also have one-on-one support to navigate the virtual events.”
Employers from a diverse range of industries were represented at the event.
“We had representatives from the health sector, so the CISSSO,” said Kelly. “Then we also had representatives from the education sector- the CSSHBO, the Western Quebec school board and Heritage College. And then we even had the military reserves. And then a lot of different small businesses in the Pontiac. It’s a very long list.”
Overall Kelly considers the event a success.
“We’re going to be doing another virtual event,” she said. “We are in the process now of sending out surveys and getting feedback. Overall the message that we’ve gotten from the job seekers and the employers and partners is that everybody was really pleased with the turnout and we’re just hoping that this is going to be something that helps to meet the needs of the labour shortage in the Pontiac.”
