Starting in 2020 as a way to hold community events that also maintained social distance, the Sand Bay Association put on the now annual Sand Fun Days over the weekend.

It all kicked off on Saturday morning with races on both land and the water, a demonstration of the new Bristol Fire Boat, and other events. In the evening the association held a . . .

beach party that went on until midnight. The band Reggie Carkner and the Boys played at the event.

“They played to late last night and we all had a blast, ‘’ said Barb Shoobert, one of the organizers of the fun days.

“There were easily 175 to 200 people on the beach,” said Shoobert.

Sunday kicked off with a parade through Sand Bay, which had a Christmas in July theme. This was followed by an Amazing Race themed scavenger hunt.

During this game, 10 teams of all ages fanned out across Sand Bay to answer clues given out by organizer Stacey Thomson.

The clues came in the form of various riddles and puzzles.

For example, one riddle was “what has a ring and no finger.” The answer was a phone, and led participants to the Télébec phone booth in Sand Bay.

The first team to correctly answer all ten clues randomly assigned to the teams and return to the starting point won a free pizza from Billy Ts.

The final events included a sandcastle competition and a firework show to end off the night.

“We’re united,” said Shoobert about what the events said about the Sand Bay community. “We love it here and we have fun. Responsibly, but we have fun.”
