Quebec has announced that mask mandates will be dropped starting May 14 at 12:01 a.m.
Wearing a mask is still recommended for vulnerable people and older folks. Wearing a mask will also still be mandatory in . . .
healthcare settings and public transit.
In a virtual news conference on May 4, Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, highlighted that the daily reported cases and laboratory test positivity rate indicate decreasing transmission of covid.
“Lagging severity trends such as hospitalizations are still elevated but beginning to decline in some jurisdictions, nevertheless weeks of COVID-19 resurgence including widespread illness and health care worker absenteeism has contributed to prolonged impacts on the health system,” said Tam.
Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux announced on May 4 that anyone ages 18-59 is now eligible to get the fourth dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. In a Twitter post, they said appointments are now available on the appointment booking platform Clic-Santé.
Although Quebec’s immunization committee (CIQ) has not made a formal recommendation for the age group yet, the ministry said it was opening up appointments for those who would like a fourth dose. There are no known negative effects to getting one, according to the ministry’s tweet.
