After several days of rain, fundraisers were thrilled to have a beautiful sunny day materialize to help them welcome visitors at Fabie’s Night Market on Saturday.

The event was held at Chez Fabie, a horse breeding farm just outside of Quyon, where approximately 20 vendors lined the roadway to sell their goods and raise funds for both the St-Marie and Onslow elementary schools in Quyon.

Tables filled with handcrafted items such as fabric hair scrunchies, bags, quilts, lanyards and puppy bandanas; home decor items and mittens made from recycled and upcycled sweaters; an assortment of children’s books; string art pieces; vegetables and baked goods offered shoppers a wide range of choice.

The event was organized in an effort to raise money for the schools’ leisure outings to places such as Les Chutes Coulonge, the Luskville Chutes and Lac Phillippe, according to one of the event’s organizers Audrey Lapointe, a 6th grade teacher at the St-Marie school. “It’s to familiarize the children with their own area,” said Lapointe, “it’s a good learning opportunity outside of the classroom, for example when we go to the Chutes, we will be learning about the water cycle,” she explained.

The farm owner Michel Alan also provided horse and buggy rides throughout the day and donated the proceeds to the schools.

Organizers are pleased with the amount of vendors who participated and with the steady stream of visitors that contributed to the success of their first event. The schools will be banking $400 each toward their planned extracurricular activities.
