Caisse Desjardins des Rivières de Pontiac held their sixth annual barbecue fundraiser in support of United Way Centraide on Friday.
The barbecue went on throughout the lunch hours, serving a number of guests with burgers, hot dogs and soft drinks. All money from the barbecue’s sales went towards United Way, which according to those running the barbecue, do a lot to help out within the community.
“United Way supports many organizations in our community, so we like to support them back,” said Stéphane Labine while cooking burgers. “We wait all year long to be doing this.”
Labine added that he was happy to see so many people stopping to grab their lunch, saying that it was going towards a good cause. “It’s encouraging that all the community wants to help the United Way,” he said.
According to Labine, Desjardins raises an average of $100,000 in support of United Way between all Outaouais locations.
Fort Coulonge mayor Debbie Laporte commended the barbecue staff, explaining that these sorts of events are what make the community so special.
“To have a barbecue in support of Centraide is exactly what we want to see,” said Laporte. “[Centraide] helps the community every day, so this is just another way of helping the community.”
Despite all of the intense heat that comes with being behind the barbecue, Labine was happy to be there. “We look forward to doing it again next year,” he said.
