Campbell’s Bay Sept. 22, 2021

A little after 5 p.m. last Wednesday, a speeding car rounded a corner and slammed into the Cambell’s Bay home of local fiddler Catherine Scullion.

Scullion wasn’t home at the time, but came upon the crashed vehicle and first responders after running errands.

The male driver, 32, and the female passenger in her 20s were not seriously injured though they were taken away to the hospital in Hull in separate ambulances.

The passenger managed to free herself from the vehicle with the help of Campbell’s Bay and Litchfield fire department; first responders had to use the jaws of life to free the driver, removing the entire roof of the vehicle in the process

Concrete steps in front of Scullion’s home managed to take almost the full brunt of the collision, though there was damage to the side of the home.

In an interview with The Equity Scullion said, “I was shocked and angry, [when I heard what happened.] That is a busy corner and I just feel something should be done, [by the municipality to address speeding in the area.]”

“One of the firemen said to me in a serious tone, ‘It’s a good thing you weren’t out there playing your fiddle,’ because sometimes I do,” she said. Under normal circumstances she would be home during that time and could have easily been standing there when the car careened into the home.

Investigators were on the scene until 11 p.m. that evening Scullion said.

While the investigation is ongoing, Sûreté du Québec police spokesperson Marc Tessier said alcohol or drugas may have been a factor in the accident.
