As one election campaign ends, a new one begins as all of Quebec’s municipal voters head to the ballot box in November.

Municipal elections across Quebec officially started on Sept. 17. The next two weeks until Oct. 1 is the nomination period in which all potential candidates for Council or Mayor of any of the the MRC Pontiac’s 18 municipalities may register and file nominations papers. The role of warden of the MRC Pontiac is also up for grabs.

Hours for registration may vary from municipality to municipality so those wishing to file nomination papers should check with their local municipal office. Polls open for advanced ballots on Oct. 31 and Election Day is Nov. 7.

Due to COVID-19, municipalities will take mail-in ballots under certain conditions. Conditions may vary slightly from municipality to municipality, so voters should check with their municipal office.

For the first time, MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais will join the MRC Pontiac and vote for the position of warden under universal suffrage. In prior years, the warden was chosen by a vote of the Council of Mayors. A governing body made up of every mayor from every municipality in the MRC des Collines de l’Outaouais.
