The Otter Lake Recreational Association invited residents out to the Raymond Johnson Community Centre for back-to-back outdoor movies screenings last Saturday.
The movies featured were The Legend of Sarila, followed by Cats and Dogs 3: Paws Unite. According to Director General Andrea Lafleur, the event was funded through the MRC Pontiac’s cultural fund.
Last year, the town had had a similar screening arranged by the Maison des Jeunes Youth Co-op. This year, however, the RA decided to organize it themselves and it seemed residents were happy to see it return.
”They’ve been happy to know there’s a movie going on,” said Councillor Vicky Dubeau. “Outside is good with the COVID, you can sit out and watch.”
Lafleur and Dubeau explained that the RA has been unable to hold many events due to COVID-19 restrictions. The movie offered them a chance to do something within the community.
“It’s nice to get the kids out, get the families down for an event,” Lafleur added.
The event was free and attendees were given free bags of popcorn to enjoy with the movies. An inflatable screen was brought out with sound produced from speakers. In the case of rain, however, audio would be broadcasted over the radio.
“We just wanted to see if they like it,” said April Dubeau who attended the screenings with her children. “It’s a good outing for them to sit and enjoy the movie.”
Lafleur said that she hopes the screenings become a yearly event.
