On Aug. 17, after the continued startling rise in new Delta variant infections, the Quebec government announced new rules to combat the fourth wave of the pandemic.
As of Oct. 1, all Quebec healthcare workers in direct contact with patients will be required to be fully vaccinated or face the possibility of redeployment to non-patient-facing positions. Masks will also be mandatory at all post-secondary institutions, Premier Legault said at the first presser of his return to regular pandemic news conferences.
Regional active figures continue to increase as the Outaouais had 82 active cases (12,765 total, 12,468 recovered) as of August 23, 2021, up 21 from August 16.
There was one hospitalization at the designated COVID-19 centre in Hull, with zero people in intensive care. The regional death toll did not rise from last Monday, and stood at 215 as of August 23.
Within the RLS Pontiac, the CISSSO listed the following cumulative numbers on August 23*:
