Norway Bay June 30, 2021
On Wednesday 30, residents of Norway Bay gathered on the beach for an early morning yoga session.
The yoga classes on Norway Bay beach are organized by Ski Pontiac, a volunteer group that maintains cross-country ski, snowshoe and walking trails in Bristol. This event was created to raise money to complete Ski Pontiac’s all-season trails. The trails, though solid for winter use, are in need of some new infrastructure and repairs for all season use to be feasible.
Knowing that Ski Pontiac was looking for funds, yoga instructor Sarah Murray approached the club’s Communications director Ariane Cloutier with an idea. Having taught yoga on the pier in Norway Bay for years, Murray suggested that all of the proceeds from the classes go to Ski Pontiac to help them reach their goal.
According to Cloutier the threat of rain made it more challenging to entice participants to attend the first class of the season. Despite this, 10 people attended the session.
“The class is an all-level class, and any age is invited to come. We had kids today and we had more senior people,” said Cloutier.
Cloutier encourages everyone to come out to the classes saying, “people think ‘well I can’t do yoga’ which is not true at all.”
Classes continues throughout the summer on Wednesday mornings from 7:30-8:30a.m. with a fee of five dollars.
