Municipality of Pontiac
June 16, 2021
The Municipality of Pontiac (MoP) gathered for its monthly meeting on June 10, 2021 connecting virtually via Zoom.
The first item for official business was discussion of a loan. . .
in the amount of $741,700.
After sending out a call for tenders, the council received offers from The Royal Bank of Canada, National Bank Financial and Desjardins Caisse Hull-Aylmer. After reviewing the bids, the council determined The RBC’s bid was the “most advantageous,” Mayor Joanne Labadie said.
The loan was approved unanimously.
The Municipality of Pontiac does not have an official name for the residents of Pontiac or demonym registered with the Commission de Toponymie (Commissioner of toponymy in English). While it its common for residents to refer to themselves as Pontiçois or Pontiçoises, there is no official recognition. The council seeks to formalize the demonym Pontiçois/Pontigoises. Though many residents use the term Pontiacer the commission does not allow the use of English demonyms. The motion was carried by majority with Nancy Draper Maxsom the only dissenter.
The municipality needs a new firetruck which has been budgeted for 2021. Given the scale of the purchase, a call for tenders is needed and was passed unanimously by the council.
The ongoing problems with Luskville Recreational Park’s lighting system are coming to end as the council awarded a contract in the amount of $31,733.10 for its rehabilitation to Groupe Brunet / Béton Brunet Ltée, the sole contractor which met the requirements of the original tender.
In more good ways for residents wishing to enjoy the outdoors, the municipality has awarded the contract to Jambette for the installation of play structures at the Quyon Recreational Park for a total amount of $49,368.02.
The council also awarded the contract for a water play structure to be installed at the Quyon Recreational Park to SIMEXCO in the amount of $75,406.5.
The meeting went long into the evening ending a little after 10 p.m. When the floor was opened for questions, there were no takers.
The MoP’s next monthly meeting is scheduled for July 6, 2021.
