Mobile vaccination clinics have made their way into the vaccination picture throughout Pontiac, with one being established in Fort Coulonge as early as June 3.

The regional health authority, the CISSSO, announced the introduction of four walk-in vaccination clinics across the Pontiac . . .

Each of the following four locations launched as clinics within the past week and will be offering appointment-less vaccinations on a daily basis from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.:

June 3- Senior Citizens Club of Fort Coulonge, 55 chemin Baume

June 6- Harrington Hall in Chapeau/L’Isle aux Allumettes, 64 chemin Pembroke

June 8- Otter Lake Recreational Centre, 394 Tessier Street

June 9- Shawville Arena parking lot, 215 Lang Street

According to CISSSO media relations agent Patricia Rhéaume, the clinics are hoping to recruit the assistance of the residents who had previously informed MRC Pontiac Warden Jane Toller of their willingness to assist in implementing mobile vaccination clinics.

“The [clinics] that will go on different locations in the Outaouais will be staffed with six people (four vaccinators and two [service aids]). It is also encouraged to use local people, when possible,” Rhéaume wrote in an email response to THE EQUITY.

Through a statement attached to the CISSSO’s release, Toller continued her encouragement of those who are unvaccinated to receive a vaccine.

“I encourage all residents of 18 years and older to make an appointment to be vaccinated,” she stated. “I am counting on everyone to ensure that we can protect the Pontiac from the virus and its variants. I am grateful to the CISSS de l’Outaouais and the many residents who work to provide mobile vaccination clinics at five locations. Please also encourage your children between the ages of 12 and 18 in the schools to receive the vaccination. When we reach 75 per cent, we can receive the second vaccination and feel some freedom. I am very proud of all Pontiac residents. We can do this! Let’s go Pontiac!”

Beginning on June 7, the timeline for people who are eligible to receive their second vaccine dose has been bumped up. As of June 9, people aged 70 and older who were eligible to receive a dose can go online and reschedule their second dose appointment to a closer date. From there, each ensuing weekday opens up appointment booking for the next youngest age group, with each group separated by five years.
